.53ct F VS2 Pear Shape Diamond
I have a lot of respect for GIA. They do their job consistently and provide us all with a reliable grading system. Of course there is room for improvement, but generally speaking, they are very good. Having said that, I think they screwed the pooch on this one. It's not imaginary – the stone definitely has some pink, and they missed it.
The cutter we bought it from specializes in fancy colored diamonds. He had a parcel of pink stones, and this stone was among it. I was stunned when I noticed the grade on this diamond. Other diamonds that seemed equally as pink had been given a grade of faint pink by GIA. Somehow this one got F color.
In the manner of other faint pink diamonds I have seen, sometimes it almost looks colorless, but there is definitely a hint of pink there. Depending on how we set this thing, I believe we can definitely bring out some color in the stone. The stone is priced about 1/3 less then it would be if GIA had graded it faint pink. It's beautifully cut, and eye clean.
