3.05ct Q-R SI1 Old European Cut Diamond
This is a remarkable example of the breed. Old European cut diamonds can be very beautiful – and this one shows why.
Although the stone does have quite a bit of color, GIA graded it Q-R – it still flashes tons of white light through the top. I'm thinking that if we set it in yellow metal, and possibly contrast with a white or a pink diamond halo, we will notice the lemon yellow shade more acutely. However, if we set it in a standard white diamond halo, with white prongs I think it will just look beautifully antique.
The cut is amazing. I would guess that the stone was cut many years ago, but it has been cleaned up since. That is why the polish was rated very good by GIA. The girdle of the stone is also quite clean and nicely finished. Again, this impacts the incredible shiny beauty the stone reflects.
Another positive aspect of the cut is the spread – this stone easily looks like a 3 1/2 carat diamond. GIA also graded the diamond SI1 clarity. However, have no fear whatsoever, the stone is totally eye clean.
So overall, we have a great price on a very large diamond!
