We chose two lovely cushions for the side stones on this ring.
They are a totally colorless pair. I love the way they look as side diamonds.
Custom made 14karat white and yellow gold setting.
More information about the center stone.
Can a diamond graded "Fair" Symmetry be pretty? Could it even be well cut? GIA grades diamonds for Color and Clarity- that's widely known. Although GIA grades the cut of colorless and near colorless diamonds it does not grade fancy shaped diamonds for cut. There are categories that relate to cut, and it would be easy to assume that if the "Polish" and Symmetry" are both Very Good, the cut is very good. However, it's not nearly that simple.
The diamond is not symmetrical - I can see it in the photos. Theoretically, all the facets on the bottom of the diamond should meet in the center of the diamond. The spot where they meet is called the "culet" The culet on this particular is off-center.
I will admit at first look I was about to dismiss this stone, but I kept looking at it. More accurately, I could not take my eyes off it. The fact it was not symmetrical didn't matter.
It's really nice looking. Other than the symmetry, everything is really nice on the stone. It is a VS1 - extremely clean. The color is very strong for Fancy Yellow- the stone is close to Intense.
The "Fair" symmetry is reflected in the price which is at least $500 less that it would be if it had Good (or better) symmetry.
