Here's a gorgeous Cushion Modified Brilliant in a super desirable 1.2:1 rectangular ratio.
It's more difficult to produce an even sparkle, which is desirable in a fancy color diamond, in a rectangle versus a square shape. The reason is that a stone this shape needs to have different sized, and shape pavilion main facets.
The main facets on a pavilion are split into 8 sections on a round brilliant. Imagine cutting a pie into 8 equal size slices. Even if it was a square pie, it would still be easy to get 8 similar sized slices.
With a rectangular shape dissecting into 8 produces long narrow slices going the long way- and shot fat ones going east-west. The reason this is a "Cushion Modified Brilliant", as opposed to a "Cushion Brilliant" is the presence of some additional facets below the girdle.
In this case, the cutter has used those additional facets perfectly to focus the light in directions that avoid dark areas when you look into the stone.
Although GIA gave it U-V- it still has a lot of nice color. Perfectly eye clean VS2 clarity. Great value for a 2ct stone this nice.
