Here's a gorgeous new style from the Henri Daussi Company. Instead of teeny tiny melee ( small round diamonds)- this style features much larger round diamonds- these stones measure 2.5mm. the smaller stones are between 1-1.5mm. The difference is easy to see.

The stones are clearly selected for incredible clarity color and cut- they sparkle like crazy ..... that's a technical term, but you get the idea:). The style also allows a straight wedding band of pretty much any size to fit flush next to the ring.

The Daussi cushion is chock full of personality. Elements of traditional Cushion mix with elements of antique style stones and even some Emerald Cut personality.

 It is a very lively stone- with phenomenal size for it's weight- looks like many 3ct Cushions you'll see.

EGL Report?

Most of the large stones we carry have a GIA report. This stone is lovely- but it's a great example of why non GIA reports are best used as bird cage protectors- the lamination is nice and thick, making poop cleaning easy.

Seriously- the grades expressed on the EGL report are wrong. Plain and simple. It's been graded J/Si1 by EGL. Wrong. Wrong Wrong!

I see it as an M color. I see it as an SI2. The imperfections are minor in scope- easily visible in these photos, but not so much in person.

The color is a soft lovely faint yellow. The fluorescence gives it a rather chameleon like personality- it looks quite white in sunlight, for example. To say nothing of how cool it will look at your local skating ring or disco.

Basically, if you love the look of these photos, you'll love the soft color in this diamond. But it's by no means a J color

So what's the deal with the EGL report?

From where I sit, that being having the ability to grade diamonds myself, the report means little. However it's most likely that you're not a diamond grader.

Since we take the time to explain the deficit in grading, our clients are well informed. A huge problem I see is sellers who don't inform the shoppers that the report is not accurate. This is a technique to make shoppers believe that these "loosey goosey with the truthy" sellers are selling J/SI1's at the same price as other, more expensive sellers who sell J/SI1's for more. Of course intelligent buyers realize that it's not a bargain buying an inaccurately graded diamond. The custom made platinum ring here accounts for over $4000 of the total price. That makes the center diamond a relatively low priced 2ct cushion- many two carat diamonds sell for double the price of this entire ring. Given that we inform our shoppers the accurate grading0 we're comfortable offering such a ring with no report- or the EGL report with an explanation. If this was a $20,000 ring we'd pull the stone and send it to GIA. In fact, if you want to buy the ring, and want the GIA report, we'll arrange that as well.
