GIA report
If this diamond was just a teeny bit more yellow, it would have been graded "Fancy Light Yellow" by GIA. But in this particular case, I was glad that it did not get the stronger color grade. Why? Simple- once a diamond is darker than Y-Z color ( like this one), it gets a slightly different type of GIA report- one that does not contain the cut grade. Round diamonds between the colors D and Y-Z natural Light Yellow are the only diamonds GIA grades for cut. So what you have here, is a stone that achieved GIA's highest grade for cut-
The stone comes to us through our old friend "Sam Spade". Sam has been buying diamonds from a few of the world's top diamond houses for so long, they let him do things others could not ask. For example, they allow him to pick through the boxes, and buy only a few stones. Anyway, the cut of this diamond didn't get this way by accident. An amazing thing is that the cutter was not "trying" to get the GIA to grade the diamond "EX" cut grade. I know this because they sold the stone to Sam who then sent it GIA. If the cutter is trying for a grade, they'd submit the stone themselves. So this is just how great they cut. And a great cut it is!
The diamond spreads 6.3 mm. That means it looks as large as many well cut 1.00- 1.01carat diamonds you'll see.
The GIA graded the clarity as VS1- it's an extraordinary clean diamond. It takes a trained eye with a loupe to see any imperfection. Once its set, even a trained eye, AND a microscope won't be able to see the tiny imperfection.
The diamond is set into this "halo" style ring- which really seems perfectly suited.
It has a lovely lemon yellow canary sparkle..
