Round Brilliant Diamonds of this size are rarely this dark. The reasons have to do with the angles the cutter has to work with when cutting. If he's cutting a radiant, there are infinite possibilities for how he can place the facets. Even shape the facets is not "standardized" on radiant, and cushion cuts. If he's cutting a round, he's handcuffed, to a certain extent.

However he did it, the cut is amazing, and the color, remarkable.

I love the way this diamond is cut because it has such tremendous sparkle.

The photo below was taken in dim lighting. The same amount of light that's hitting my hand is hitting the diamond. Look how much it's kicking back.

The visual size is also good- it has good spread for it's weight.

This may surprise you, but I was very happy that this stone is an I1. We had a 1.99ct Fancy Yellow VS1 recently ( now sold) listed for $28k. That's why I'm really thrilled with the clarity of this guy. Although the feathers are clearly visible in the photos, it's impossible for me to see them naked eye.

The feathers are wholly located within the diamond and pose no structural threat whatsoever.

Medium Blue Fluorescence  gives the stone an somewhat chameleon- like persona.
