Why do we LOVE imperfect diamonds? The very first thing I
notice about a diamond is its cut. Open up the parcel paper that
diamond cutters keep the loose stones in, and in a heartbeat you can
tell if it's well cut. Sure, there are a lot of intricacies about the
cut, but just like you look at Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie and know
they're good looking- I look at a diamond and know it's well cut.
In the shot above, the things I love
about this diamond's cut are eminently clear. Amazing sparkle, phenomenal life-
a size that will meet, or exceed your expectations of mass. It's huge.
I'll admit it- I probably
love diamond shopping as much as any of you. It's so exciting
because every one is different. This one is a J color, I1 as graded
by GIA.
Sure, I love seeing the D/VVS1 five carat
diamonds one of our favorite cutters always have. But in many ways, I'm more
psyched to find a J/I1 in the box. Look at it this way, this diamond costs less
than one carat out of a 5.00 D/VVS1. Yes, less than 20%. When I go diamond
shopping, I'd really rather buy a whole lot of really sweet looking affordable
stones rather than one super premium stone.

Diffused Carbon Spots make for a very clear
I1
In the photo above you can clearly see
the little black spots. Thing is, in person, they really blend in to the
sparkle.
None of these little spots is large enough to block a significant amount of light. In essence, the diamond could be a flawless, so long as you can't see any of the little black spots with your eye- and I can't.
What about the J color- isn't that tinted?
We hear so many stories about how jewelers, and
others, knock J color diamonds.
"You don't want a tinted stone!", they are told.
First of all, J is such a slight tint, you'd
really need to be extremely sensitive to color to even notice. You already know
if you're in this category- and you're shopping for D-E-F color diamonds.
Second of all- even if you could see a slight
difference from a D color- why would you think that's ....bad? Why put such a
negative connotation to a color? In fact, we use this to our advantage. We offer
larger, better cut diamonds, with GIA grading, for reasonable prices.
These photos show you the range of colors that
can come off a J colored diamond- the faint Fluorescence also helps it look
colorless.
