1.01ct Fancy Light Yellow Green VS2 Emerald Cut Diamond Halo Ring

This stone is just too cool!

The color is subtle, but it’s there no doubt - lovely faint green. Like Miso soup. Green is among the rarest of natural colors in diamonds. The yellow GIA saw mitigates the price here, by a massive number. But in person, the yellow is not so easy to see.

Fancy Light Green is a grade which is going to cost... $40k for a one carat stone... maybe more? In that context, this stone is quite reasonably priced.

The cut is very attractive to me for a number of reasons.

Make and Model
“Make” refers to the overall cut characteristics.
"Model" refers to the outline - or design of the layout. Things like LxW, and corner size.

I love both with this stone.

It’s a bit on the shallow side, at 54.9%.

Now, before we go any further, I want to caution anyone who is easily offended:
FORGET ALL THE BS YOU SEE ONLINE WITH REGARDS TO ASSESMENT OF FANCY SHAPED DIAMONDS

This includes:
Any Chart the purports to classify a diamond’s cut based on it’s measurements
Any website published “cut grade” that is NOT a grade issued by GIA. GIA issues cut grades on Round Diamonds. Only Round Diamonds.

That means any seller claiming to have a “Excellent” cut Emerald Cut is using some sort of computer generated cut grade - having no agreed upon gemological basis.

If someone is looking at the diamond, and you trust their assessment, they can give you an idea of if the diamond is well cut, and why they feel it is so. That could be a useful assessment - as opposed to an arbitrary grade.

Back to the make and model.

The stone is cut on the shallow side - yet there is no obvious visual detraction due to the depth. The steps are quite distinct, and “confuse the eye”- like an optical illusion - making the diamond appear deeper than it is when you look into it.

On the plus side, it looks like a carat and a third emerald cut based on surface area.

I think this is a lovely stone to look at, in person - and I am looking at it.

The clarity, at VS2 is not totally eye clean if you have amazing vision. If your vision is normal, it would be eye clean. There are a few little pin points and some faint lines easily visible in the photos - not so much in real life. It's also incredibly difficult to get every bit of dust off the stone when we photograph it.

The Ring

I could not have hoped for a more positive result from the ring. The subtle green has blossomed into a very visible hue. You can see it in pretty much any light, though more indoors I'd say. I love it in any light.

The amazing cut adds to the lovely look of the ring.
