1.00ct Fancy Light Yellow VS2 Pear Shape Diamond

We bought this stone from the cutter before it had been to GIA- then we sent it in. The stone was a bargain- even before we sent it to GIA.

When we got a color of Fancy Light Yellow the price became a "super bargain"

Why was the stone so inexpensive?

For one thing the shape, it is a bit pudgy- looking more like .85ct than 1.00ct. Most pear buyers want a more elongated shape. OK, most people like vanilla ice cream, but there is a portion of us that like things because they are different - or chubby, or whatever.

That is why I don't put a lot of stock into "popularity" when it comes to evaluating what I see as beautiful in diamonds.

I like the way the stone looks - organic tear drop shape. The faceting makes a very sweet combination of smaller and larger flashes. The color and sparkle make the stone very bright. This is an eye clean VS2 stone.

The other aspect that needs mentioning is the fact that GIA declared the symmetry "Fair"

This is due to a few facets on the left side that don't exactly correspond with the ones on the right side. If you are ever looking in a microscope, and you have a diamond maven around you can find it, but there is no obvious deficiency in the cut of the stone looking naked eye.

A "no excuses" 1.00 Fancy light Yellow VS2 pear shape is going to cost at least 50% more.
