This one had me at hello. When you're looking for diamonds, sizes around 1.00 to 1.10 seem to be much more common than sizes between 1.25 and 1.45ct.

We are extremely fortunate in that we deal with some of the world's largest cutters of high quality diamonds. This means that we get to look through 50 stones to pick the one or two we like. When I noticed the size marked on the parcel paper, 1.36 carats, I immediately wanted to see the stone. As soon as I flipped open the paper... BANG!

The large corners give it an awesome shape. The 62.9% depth ratio does two amazing things here:

1) the diamond looks like a 1 1/2 carat rock

2) In terms of the cut, this depth actually accentuates the steps, visually

The polish and symmetry are very good on the GIA report. Of course, you can see how good the symmetry is looking at this emerald cut diamond in these ultra close-up photos. Remember, although this is a very well cut diamond, GIA's "Polish" and "Symmetry" grades, on their own, can't be used to determine if a stone is well cut.

This diamond has a totally benign black carbon spot. here's a few tiny feathers that in these photos, look like little specks.

When you look at this diamond in person, it's really difficult if not impossible to see any of that.

The GIA grade- D color, and SI2 clarity, is a perfect combo in terms of budget- a VS1 is about 50% more
